Quince paste, or carne de membrillo is a spread or dessert that is made from the quince fruit. It is traditionally found in Italy, Portugal, and Spain, with this particular brand hailing from Spain. It is characterized as a firm, sticky, sweet reddish hard paste made of the quince fruit, sugar and water cooked over a slow fire. It pairs nicely with a variety of the spanish cheeses and is often found being used as a stuffing for pastries. Its sweet and mildly tart flavor makes it very similar to guava paste, as well as in both consistency and use.
